Charming and Cozy Historical 3 Bedroom Dog Friendly Winnipesaukee Cottage | House in Moultonborough
3 Bedroom House in Moultonborough
Delightful Winnipesaukee cottage offering 3 bedrooms and 1 full bath with shower stall (no tub). Imagine waking up before the rest of the group and meandering out to the screen porch for your first cup of coffee in peace and solitude while listening to the loons as they cross the water. You may even want to join them in one of the two kayaks or the canoe to paddle the shoreline. The property has 200 feet of waterfront with a dock that will accommodate your boat up to 20 feet in length. Entry into the water is by steps from the shore near the dock. Back inside, the cabin retains all the charm of the lakeside cabins of yesteryear along with some "creature comforts" such as wireless internet. You'll snuggle up in front of the fireplace in the evening or unplug and reconnect out in the screen room while enjoying a board game. The resident chef will love preparing your meals on the gas grill and you'll marvel at the pretty lake view from the dining table. Is Rover giving you the side-eye every time you discuss your vacation in front of him? Well tell him he's going too!!! Your dog is welcome to join you, depending on the size and kind, with an additional $175 pet fee. Please ask about bringing your dog at the time of booking.
If you are a history enthusiast, you will enjoy learning about Grace Banker Paddock (the original owner and grandmother of the current owners of this cottage) and her important role in World War I. She was the Chief Operator of the First Unit of the Army Signal Corps Bi-lingual Telephone Operators (commonly known as the "Hello Girls"), working at General Pershing's headquarters. For her exceptional work, she was the only woman in the Signal Corps in WW1 to be awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. The Hello Girls deployed to France, worked near the front lines, and lived the lives of soldiers. Sadly, their story was lost to history, but it was recently rectified with the passage of the Hello Girls Congressional Gold Medal Act in 2024. Today, you can read about these trailblazing women in Elizabeth Cobb's book "The Hello Girls: America's First Women Soldiers". Grace and her husband Eugene Paddock enjoyed vacationing at Lake Winnipesaukee over the years. In 1955, they built this cottage. Today, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren continue to enjoy the lake and all it has to offer. Be sure to check out the assorted references at the cottage and learn more about Grace Banker Paddock and these pioneering women!
